Botswana & Zimbabwe Mobile Tented Safari

Xakanxa

Khwai

Okavanga Delta

Our mobile safari began in Botswana. We were met in Botswana by our guide David Carson, a native of Zimbabwe, and a licensed professional guide. We spent 6 nights camping in the Moremi area visiting two sites Xakanaxa and Khwai. Each site had a unique ecosystem. The game viewing was spectacular and David has a true gift for tracking big cats! We enjoyed viewing the Delta by boat and caught a few elephants enjoying a swim. Each day was an adventure. Because our camp was mobile we were able find pristine unspoiled areas. It is easy to fall in love with Africa. Once you hear the call of the wild you will be compelled to return. We left Botswana to visit Victoria Falls. From the falls we continued to Matusadona National Park and were joined by our Zimbabwe guide Douglas MacDonald. Doug is also a licensed professional guide. The professional guiding standards in Zimbabwe are the the highest of any country on the continent. We spent 3 days tracking game on foot. We had to adjust to abandoning the safety of a vehicle and we relieved to be in the company of a very experienced guide. We continued on to the Mana Pools, a world heritage site. By this point, we were comfortable being in the bush on foot. We began the canoeing portion of our Safari. We spent 4 days canoeing down the Zambezi river dodging hippos and giant crocodiles. Watching the animals from our little canoe was certainly an interesting perspective. The scenery was breathtaking. We stopped on little islands for lunch and a chance to observe the animals up close. We had a very exciting encounter with a large bull elephant. Our camp moved daily as we progressed down river. At sundown we canoed to our campsite to settle in for the evening. This was a trip of a lifetime. For anyone interested in traveling to Africa the book "Africa's Top Wildlife Countries" by Mark Nolting is an great reference guide. The book comprehensively reviews all the countries, various accommodations from deluxe lodges to camping options, the best times to travel to each area, and the best areas to find the animals you are interested in seeing. We booked our trip with The African Adventure Company. They specialize in African travel and they took the time to get to know us so they could create our perfect itinerary.
